 PreK

Every living soul seeks kindess, love, warmth, and safety.  If, through music, we can give the soul of the child one of these, this is enough reason for being.
- Shinichi Suzuki

PreK music class can be best described as a "music and movement" class.  This is the perfect precursor to Kindergarten music! Our short, 30 minute lessons are all about experiencing as much music as we can in as many ways as possible.  This helps develop a excellent musical "bank" from which we draw from as we move toward music literacy. Additionally, we are learning to take turns, make a circle with our friends, share, be patient, listen, and joyfully use our voices without hesitation!

Below is a list of some of the concepts we work on throughout the school year.

  •     Free movement in space

  •     Motions with songs and poems

  •     Steady Beat

  •     Rhythm

  •     Speaking voice vs. singing voice

  •     Chanting

We also work very hard on our comparative concepts.  These tie in nicely with what the general classroom teachers are teaching as well.  Those concepts include:

  •     Same/Different

  •     Loud/Soft

  •     Fast/Slow

  •     Short/Long

  •     High/Low

When we finish our PreK music class this year, we will have a head start on our Kindergarten music learning and we will be ready to be leaders in our class!
