  Fourth Grade

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
Berthold Auerbach

Fourth Grade is such a fun year in music class!  This year we get to transfer all of our music knowledge into reading and performing using absolute pitch names (A-G) instead of just solfege (do, re, mi, etc).  Fourth Grade is also the first year we can join the Pride of Paloma Creek Choir!

Here are some of the elements we get to learn about this year in music.

  •     New Rhythms: tahm-ti and ti-tahm (dotted quarter and eighth), silent ti (eighth rest)

  •     New Note: high do

  •     Anacrusis

  •     Pentatonic (5 Note) Scales beginning on: so (mixolydian) and re (dorian)

  •     D.C., D.S., al fine, Coda

  •     Musical Expressions: Tempo (largo and vivace), Dynamics (mezzo piano and mezzoforte)

  •     Absolute Pitch Names (G-clef)

  •     Musical Forms: rondo, theme and variations, suite

  •     Special emphasis on American and Texas songs
